thank you for this video. i really needed to hear this right now. i'm a freshman in college who thought i could take 18 credits (5 classes) in my second semester of college and pass. i'm currently failing 3/5 of my classes and i'm for sure going to be put on academic probation. i've never really failed an entire class before, and i'm not even sure how to feel about my future in general. what's worse is that my only support system is my family and they're not than supportive and are probably more disappointed than they've ever been, and my friends aren't exactly very sympathetic either. i was going to make a video about how failing my classes is going too, but thank you for sharing your experience. it really does help to know that i'm not alone in failing and being where i'm at right now. even though idk you personally, you're definitely someone i wish i did because you've handled this better than i am right now. much love!!

I’m in a similar situation. I’m in my first semester in college, and I’m failing 3/4 of my classes. I went from being a straight A student for all of my academic life to failing college. I can’t tell my family about it no matter what because the disappointment is going to be immeasurable.

This year, at 25, I decided to go back to college because I was tired of doing fast food jobs. In the spring semester I was pretty relaxed about grades, only doing bio 1 with the lab. I worked hard though, and I made high A's. The summer express semester was tough, with a 2-in-1 math class and bio 2 with the lab. At first I thought I was going to fail math but managed to push through, making straight A's again. It was blissful working so hard for a satisfying payoff. And this is when I started merging my grades with my sense of self worth. Now I've decided I want to go into neuroscience. It's currently the fall semester and I'm taking chemistry with the lab and a harder math that's online. I'm feeling like a failure everyday because the material is so hard to get through. When I catch up in one class, I fall behind in another, and the cycle continues. I'm starting to feel burnt out and I want to drop a class so that my GPA doesn't take a hit from my inability to keep everything above water. I now have a self-decided time limit and GPA requirement for my graduation, which has added to the pressure of it all. Pressure that probably doesn't need to exist...if only I were more forgiving toward myself. Thanks for making this series of videos. My friends who are also in school don't seem to be having as rough of a time as me. Or I guess they aren't equating their grades to their worth like I am. I'm new to your videos but I'm really glad you made them, especially this update. Your story about shutting down when they asked your GPA gives me a glimpse into the future I'll have if I continue believing that my grades define me (or if I keep pushing myself to burnout because I think I have to). I could see myself doing the same thing in your situation. Now's the time for me to change my mindset so that this feeling of being a failure doesn't carry on after graduation.

Thank you for this response! I admire your effort, and your work is something to be proud of. I do hope you can align your values in a way that doesn't rely on your grades and end results. I'm in a place where they didn't ask for my grades and they never come up, and it's been so refreshing and has lightened a weight I've been carrying. Grades have some determining factor in your career path, and that's just how society and education operate. But I hope for your own health and peace of mind, you know the value of your work outside of a system.

I went through this too, but the way my family acted ruined my self esteem. Even in my first semester, I worked hard, and instead they told me that I couldn't do it and overloaded my schedule with events when I had to study. I ran out of time, and the hopelessness made it harder to push through, their comments made me give up and resort to entertainment to cheer up, to the point where I started entertaining myself all day and hardly studying for an hour or two a day on average. When I failed, they continued to taunt me for it. It's been two years and I feel worthless and don't have the same confidence, energy, and drive that I did as a high schooler. Being Asian doesn't mean you're smart. It means that when something is thrown at you and you do not know how to cope with it, you are criticised harshly to the point where you are no better than a lazy bum. Who knows? Maybe that lazy bum had ambition and was wasted the same way?

Yes, that's correct. There was an instance in which I got a D in a class, but for the sake of graduating "on time" (<< which is a ridiculous concept to begin with!), I actually just proceeded onto the next course in the series and barely passed it.

I'm a freshman community college student. I'm about to fail 1st class for my 1st semester. I know some people won't think it's bad because I see people in the comments who have failed more and I'm barely starting college. But I had my first panic attack because of math anxiety while taking an online class. I worked really hard but I still couldn't take a fucking test. Now I'm about to fail my calculus class because I started to avoid math in fear of another attack happening again. It was my first panic attack so I feel a bit traumatized by that and I feel so ashamed cause of that. I couldn't tell anybody of my attack cause my mind really had to process what happened and I was confused and I have been stuggling with mental issues for a while. I thought it was going to get better through time but it wasn't. I really needed help. Meditation isn't enough, I'm going to open to my parents about it. I'm really glad you made this video, it made me feel like I'm not alone and everything is going to be ok :') so thank you

Ever since this pandemic started I feel like my mental health and ability to focus has dropped at least 30 percent. I started taking online classes this spring and only passed 2 out of my 3 classes but those two didnt really count towards my GPA. I eventually took 3 summer classes and I did terrible in them, I lacked the energy or willingness to do anything school related, I was so lazy even in my personal life, it was just a mess man🤦🏿‍♂️I know people usually say just dont procrastinate but it's harder said than done

Hey, May: I hope you made it. Don't let this world get the best of you. I admire people that get accepted into universities. My brother went to USC (Southern California). I was really happy for him. I've never been to a university because my grades sucked, and I really can't afford to pay for college. I used to go to Pasadena City College. I went there for a semester and, after a few months, I stopped showing up for my classes and they dropped me. I took 4 classes and the teachers dropped me just because I stopped showing up for class---can you believe that? 😉 I did manage to pass this one math class, though.

Hi May, 1) Before anything: I just want to say congratulations on your two jobs! You are doing great! I applaud you for finding somewhere nice and decent to work that leaves you with the resources and experiences for a good future. 2) Thank you for sharing. In a similar sense, I have experienced that downward feeling where once you are overcoming a detour in your life, you are stunned by things as simple as getting a job. In my case, my hinderance was not school, but other personal conditions. At the end of the day though, you are right: You advocate yourself. I appreciate that you see this too. Sometimes, I too feel low after being rejected for opportunities I have worked hard for. But I feel proud to know I matter and I have value and that value deserves to be acknowledged first, else I am doing a disservice to myself. I am glad you do too. 3) I am happy to see you learned from this interview experience and viewed it from a positive light. It is easy to disregard holding grace after feeling rejected. You did good in not just applying for jobs you aspire, but more importantly realizing what that interview taught you about your own expectations for that company. In the meantime, I hope your current job gives you even more positive experiences and moments while you progress through your career. 4) I was all surprised to see you finally posted a video in so long! Again, thank you for sharing. It feels good to see you are doing well. Anyway, I wish you a wonderful summer and wonderful day. :) Bye May!

Update from my UltimateChaos 14 alt account (if it’s still up, idk?): I finally got my Associates degree in Science last year 😊 I would’ve loved to walk on stage, but you know…COVID happened…The best I got was a virtual commencement with just my name passing by. I was happy to move onto the next chapter of my life, getting a Bachelors degree in Petroleum Engineering. That Fall semester really opened my eyes. The only reason I wanted to be a Petroleum Engineer was because of my late Grandmother’s wishes. I remember her saying, “You will become a Petroleum Engineer and make lots of money.” (I miss that crazy Filipina 😭) I didn’t think of what I wanted to do with my life. What would make me happy? After a shaky Fall semester, I decided to switch majors. I am now going for a Computer Science degree. I want to be a Game Designer. Video games are a big part of my life, and I would love nothing more than to create them. I want others to experience what I grew up with, absolute joy. Right now, I’m 21 years old (going to be 22 on the 31st of May 🥳) heading into my 5th year of college. Do I think I’m a failure for taking more time in college? No. I know that the journey will all be worth it in the end. Plus, I don’t think I can fulfill my dream of being a professional wrestler or singer with my student debt looking back at me 😅
